Hi.."atheist paul" here. Enjoyed the chat in nice surroundings too. Dunno if anyone is gonna read this (apart fromt the moderator). But here goes anyway..Curiosity is enjoyable but can also be demanding. To be truly curious on a daily basis takes time and effort and energy. We are all so busy and have to apportion our time wisely...True curiosity i believe doesnt simply flit about, it follows paths and currents, goes into learning areas difficult to understand and demands much concentration and attention. There is little point in asking curious questions if no time is taken to absorb, learn, accomodate and assimilate new information. And that can be hard work. How DO we apportion our time? I contend that our life balance may need to shift if we are to be truly curious. Less time watching aimless but entertaining t.v. (for example) and a bit of that time given over to learning and understanding about the world within and without us. And dont forget, its hard work, especially at first, when learning structures and patterns are being put into place. But I would also contend that the enrichment that begins to take place within yourself is worth the extra work. And that in time that extra work comes to be like playtime, fun,and deeply enriching and enjoyable. If you go onto itunes you will find that many universities now have their lectures online. There has never been a better time to be curious.
I certainly overdid it with the content for Thursday's enquiry. PaulD pointed it in an email afterwards. Quite rightly too... as it said on one of those slips I gave out... "Learning can be a painful process"... I wept and wept, I did ... but I'll get over it :0(
Curiosity... Yes, you so right my friend... I tried to make a comment on the night, after our little aside re the X-Factor. In light of your comment re "aimless T.V."... I watch X-Factor you see. It fascinates me; watching how the relationships play out... I know it's all a set-up (Babette of "blinded by celebrity" and soon-to-be-famous, told me so)... I suppose even knowing that I'm still looking for some authenticity in the protagonists... Ah well, one of my other friends doesn't understand either how I can get so fascinated and engaged just watching the adverts!! I love watching what the latest marketing techniques are; the ploys and confidence tricks coming out of the country's Mad Men... It's all education if you ask me.
Heh, and you are also so right about the energy it takes to live at that level of curiosity all the time.. I'm telling you, I have absolutely no problem getting to sleep at night. I'm pretty well exhausted!
See yer later Aligator... Ray
p.s. Those chairs at the Fringe... they are soooooo comfortable, like, gggggggorrrrrgeous!!
